December 2018 Missions Update

Greetings in the name of Jesus and Merry Christmas in advance.

We praise God for keeping us to the end of the year 2018 and thank you so much for partnering with us to focus on taking the gospel to the unreached people and putting smiles on the faces of orphans, widows and vulnerable kids especially those in the Internally Displaced People (IDP) camps. It is incredible how God protected us, provided for us and helped us did His biddings these past months. Thank you for praying and supporting us with funds

Harvest in Bum
Baptizing Kaka, the oldest woman in Zull land that
 resisted gospel for many years
God continue to draw men and women to Himself from almost all the mission fields. The most recent is the conversion of a very old woman in Zull popularly known as Kaka. The woman had consistently resisted the gospel until a few weeks ago when she came under serious conviction, and she called on the field leader, Ladi Ekpa to come to pray for her and set her idols on fire. She and other recent converts have been baptized.

Regional Leader’s Auto Accident
Our regional leader for Kamberi, Dukawa, Bokko and Fulani fields (Sunday Musa) was involved in a motorcycle accident while on an official journey between New Bussa and Luma in Niger state. His kneecap was badly affected. After spending some days at New Bussa General Hospital, he was referred to a Teaching Hospital and was brought to Jos. He had surgery on the knee after spending some weeks in the hospital. He is recovering very fast and has been discharged from the hospital. He will remain in Jos for some time for a medical checkup and for him to be stronger.

We are extremely grateful to DaySpring Ministry, Our Daily Needs Ministry, Soteria Ministry, Grace Foundation Staff in the Niger Republic, Benin Republic, Niger State, and converts from the Mission fields for the financial support they provided that drastically helped with the medical expenses. We are incredibly grateful to many other individuals who contributed in one way or the other and numerous calls and visits by friends, partners, and family members. Much thanks also to the headquarter staff and Home of Grace children who took care of him when he was in the hospital. We are extremely grateful.

Ministry to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs)
We continued to do our best to extend God’s love to widows and orphans in the IDP camps in Plateau State. Recently, we invited 20 widows to spend three days with us at the headquarters during our National Women Conference. We took the time to fellowship with them, prayed with them and bless them materially and financially.
We have visited the camp twice in recent times to provide them foodstuffs and toiletries. Through the provision of funds by Tabitha Arise, we were able to get another five bags of rice, five bags of garri, two Jerican of oils toiletries, etc. for the displaced persons for their end of year celebration. We covet your prayers for the donors that God will bless them mightily.

Ministry to orphans and vulnerable kids - Home of Grace (HOG)
Some of our HOG kids testing their Christmas clothes
Our kids at the Home of Grace are doing well. Jonathan Umoru is warming up for his Interim Joint Admission Matriculation Board (IJMB) examination. Sarah Ali is also preparing hard for her NECO and WASC examination while Elizabeth and Samuel are getting ready for the Junior WASC examination. They are set for Christmas, the new entrants, Timothy, Domshak, Rosaline, Victor, and Alheri have two pairs of clothes sown for them for their Christmas and New Year. Others have one each, and they all look colorful and fine in their Christmas clothes.

As usual, Yakubu Abel came first in his class. Sarah came second, and Naomi came third. We covet your prayers for Elizabeth and Victor. They are weak and need help to catch up. Domshak who is just coming from a war situation does not know how to read and write. We have begun effort at getting him to know some basic things. We covet prayers for Salisu Chiroma for admission into the University of Jos.

Events
Preparation for the indigenous Believers Camp Meeting (IBC 2019) for Bauchi State covering Zullawas, Yelwas, Dirawas, Boluawas, and other tribal groups is in top gear.
Also, we have the Niger State version covering Kamberi, Dukawas, Bookos, Fulanis and other tribes around Borgu and the Benin Republic border on January 23-27, 2019.
The 24th African Mission Summit comes up on March 19-23, 2019. We covet your prayers for a peaceful political climate in the face of the 2019 general election.

On a sad note
Sister christiana Obateru
A few weeks ago, the daughter of one our very dear partner and friend, Mr. Taiye Obateru passed on to glory at the age of 23. She is a final year medical student at the University of Jos and their only daughter. We are very sad and have appealed to all our friends and partners to kindly pray for the Obateru’s family for comfort.

Our brother, Tom Shola who was shot on his lap during the last Jos Jihadist attack is still on admission in the hospital. The Plateau State Government undertakes to pay the bill, and his first surgery has been carried out. Unfortunately, all the drugs prescribed that are not available in the hospital pharmacy have to be bought outside the hospital pharmacy and funds are not provided for drugs. Also, he is due for the second surgery but additional N150, 000.00 is required to settle the doctors outside the normal hospital bill for it to be carried out. We felt it was unethical, but it is a norm in that hospital now. The explanation is that some of the materials used by the doctors for the surgery will not be supplied by the hospital. The situation is very pathetic and helpless. We, therefore, appeal for your prayers.

Prayer Needs
1.    Pray for the Taiye Obateru’s family for comfort following bereavement of their only daughter.
2.    Pray for Thomas Adeshola who was already due for second surgery following gunshot for the provision of fund for the doctors’ surgery charges (150,000.00 beside what government will be paying)
3.    Praise God for successful surgery of Sunday Musa. Pray that God will bless all that donated towards settling the medical bill and for a quick recovery.
4.    All our vehicles are in bad shape. Recently my car engine got knocked. The least Toyota Corolla engine we got is N340,000 minus workmanship. Pray for the miracle of the fund to put the car in good shape or get a new reliable car.
5.    Pray for our missionaries for their needs to be met. We are trusting God for N1 million for Missionary Children Education Fund (MCEF) to assist parents struggling with their children education expenses.
6.    Pray for fund to meet up with our budgets for 2019 like the completion of building projects on the mission fields, foreign mission including those to closed nations, missionary empowerment projects, sponsorship for our prospective missionaries who are due to have resume training but do not have  N130,000 and some flight tickets from Malawi, Kenya, and Cameroun.
7.    Pray for all our partnering churches/ agencies and individuals funding the upkeep of our missionaries, Home of Grace Kids and sponsoring missionary training/ projects on the fields that God would bless them mightily and continue to provide for them and sustain their heart to continue that support in 2019.
8.    Pray for our converts, the orphans / vulnerable we are taking care of and the missionary trainees that Christ will be formed in them.
9.    Pray for our leaders that God will shield them from every evil and that God will perfect all that concerns them. Dr. Agnes Okpe came under severe attack in 2018, but God delivered her from death. Pray for her that affliction will not arise the second time.
Finally, thank you so much for praying and standing with us financially may God bless you richly. May we together continue strong and end well in Jesus name.

His bondservant

October 2018 Missions' Update

Dearly Beloved,

Greetings to you in Jesus name. We trust that God is keeping you despite the harsh security environment. We are writing to thank you for your concern and prayers during the last crises that engulfed Jos. In answer to your prayer, we were able to safely move over 60 members of the Grace Foundation community from Furaka to Diye in Zaramaganda during the recent crisis and 24hours curfew where we all stayed for one whole week. We have returned to our mission base now.

The Advanced Missions Leadership Course for 2018
The Advanced Missions Leadership Course for 2018 session has come and gone, but the
2018 Advanced Missions Leadership Institute Graduates
impact will remain incredible. No fewer than 38 persons representing ten mission agencies/churches fully participated in the course. We are forever grateful to God for making it possible, and we are incredibly thankful to you for your prayers and financial support, may the Lord bless you richly. We are grateful to our facilitators/resources persons, Prof. Samuel Odeh, Brother Ikechukwu Ugwuanyi, Dr. Samuel Afolabi, Dr. Sam Alaha, Dr. Bitrus Audu, Rev. Gideon Ekele, Rev. Bala Usman, Bro. Agaba Okwoli and Rev. John Olarewaju.

Update from the Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) Camp - The New Mission Frontiers
2nd Visit to Heipang IDP Camp
Worried about the pain and deprivation of the persons displaced from the various villages around Jos by the Jihadists are subjected to, we visited Heipang Internal Displaced Persons (IDP) for the second time in one month and the camp at Bokkos once. Each of the visits, we took along with us for foodstuffs and toiletries made possible through the support of our partners, and we are grateful to God that the donations made a huge difference. The traditional ruler and the camp officials and the displaced persons were extremely appreciative and pleaded for prayers that the government would do the needful so they can return to their ancestral home.

While some of the displaced persons are anxious and praying earnestly for the return of peace so they can go back home, many kids have no place to go. For example, Timothy was one of them, both his father and mother were killed this year on June 26, by the Fulani herdsmen. Rosa and Domshak still have their mothers spared by killers but are now fatherless. They are traumatized and need both spiritual and psychosocial help. We met them helpless and decided to three of them. We have moved them to the Home of Grace. We trust the Lord to bring them up in fear of the Lord and provide all that parent are supposed to provide for them by God's grace. They have resumed school at Trinity Academy. As the Lord provided, we will take care of them until they grow to the point of taking care of themselves. We covet your prayers for grace and resources. We already have a partner who has indicated interest in providing funds for the upkeep of one of them. As God make resources available, we will engage more of them.

Home of Grace (HOG) Update
The school session of our  HOG kids was interrupted for one week by the crises. We relocated them also for one week to avoid or somewhat reduce the trauma resulting from the terror attack. They are back to the home and have resumed school. They are growing in every aspect of their lives, and we are impress and grateful to God that our labor over their lives is yielding the desired result. Please join us in praying for the five new kids that have just been newly admitted to the home (the three from the Heipang IDP camp and two others)
We still require God’s intervention for fund for some of the HOG kids who are not yet adopted to buy their books, school bags, sandals and pay their school fees. Thank you so much for all you have been doing for these kids

SOCM Resumes against All Odds
The 2018/19 session of the School of Cross-Cultural Missions has resumed. Their resumption coincides with a new outburst of ethnoreligious Jihad. Our training center falls under the community that 24hours curfew was imposed upon. We thank God that despite the tension and the crises, our students are courageous are resolute. Please pray along with us that the crises should come to an end and that the rest of the students whose resumption were delayed due to finance and the crises should resume as soon as possible.

We are bereaved! Our hearts are broken
A graduate of GF Advanced Missions Leadership Institute and very dear friend and
Deacon Abraham Frama
a colleague, Deacon Abraham was went missing about two weeks ago on his way from Yola to Jos. We were worried and set aside time to pray fervently for his release, thinking he was abducted. Days after the search, news reached us he was found dead in Jos with body parts missing. Please, pray for comfort for his family and ministry team.
Deacon Frama was Principal of Baptist High School, Jos for many years. Through him, we had inroad to the school where we had one full week of mission mobilization. He leads Global Commission, a mission agency with over 30 missionaries working among unreached people in the extreme North of Nigeria. We were privileged to train many of his missionaries.

Appreciation/Prayer Points/ Conclusion
Thank you so much for your consistent partnership. Through your prayers and financial support, we got to where we are today. We continue to count on God to use you. Please, pray along with us for:
1.     Admission to the university for four of our Home of Grace kids. We are depending only on God as efforts in time past have failed to yield result.
2.     Fund to complete our building projects across many of our mission fields.
3.     We need support for our School of Cross-Cultural Missions that have no support or scholarship and for the running of the school.
4.     Support for several missionaries with the responsibility of children school fees and health challenges and divine protection for them including the staff in Jos.
5.     Pray for the return of peace to Jos and for all our members. Brother Adeshola was shot during the crisis. He was operated upon at Jos University of Jos Teaching Hospital. Pray for a quick recovery.
6.     Pray for God’s blessing upon our partners, their family and the leadership of the ministry.
7.     Pray for me as I travel to UK for a training and to United Arab Emirate for a consultation.
8.     Thank the Lord for all He has done and He is still doing for us.

The Wonders of Waterleaf

The garden of Eden must be very powerful. The same applies to gardens across the nations of the world today because of many fruit and vegetable with compelling medicinal value found in them.  Waterleaf is one such vegetable. We will focus on it in this edition. Waterleaf (Talinum triangulare), is one of those underrated and undervalued plants in Nigeria. Some even regard waterleaf as a nuisance, a stubborn weed that grows all year, though it flourished more during the rainy season.

If you care for your health, not satisfied with just being alive, but being well, then you need waterleaf. It is an edible leafy vegetable that belongs to the Portulacea family. It was initially found in West Africa but has now spread across to other parts of the world like Asia and South America. Waterleaf is a herbaceous perennial plant that has its stem above ground. The seed sprouts as a tiny, aqua-colored plant before growing into a more conspicuous plant with larger leaves.

In many scientific studies and trails, waterleaf showed that it could inhibit proliferation of cancerous cells and shrink tumors. Other studies have been focused on its cerebral-protective potential, and it indicates that consumption of waterleaf enhances brain activities and protect brain tissues. Waterleaf is also a good remedy for insomnia (sleeping disorder).

Waterleaf contains more proteins than cashew nuts, more pectin (a food fiber that helps digestion) than apples, and also have a high level of vitamin B, essential amino acids, omega3-fatty acids, resins, iron, calcium, copper, lead, manganese, and zinc. It is also a rich source of carotenoids, vitamin C, A, thiamine, riboflavin, niacin, alpha, and beta tocopherols. The pounded waterleaf is applied to soothe inflammations. An infusion of the leaves is taken as a diuretic. For prostate enlargement, the roots are boiled. The dosage is half a glass twice daily. Waterleaf is excellent and safe for pregnant women and growing children, as it boosts their blood levels. Eating waterleaf regularly as soup helps to regulate hypertension and diabetes.

While waterleaf is very beneficial when it is taken as a vegetable, dried herbs, and infusion. However, juicing is the way to go if you want the best out of waterleaf.  What is juicing? Juicing is a process whereby you extract vitamins, minerals, and liquids from fruits and vegetables. To juice waterleaf, chop waterleaf, both stem, and leaves, into pieces, in the same way as you do if you want to cook it. Then put two or three handfuls in the blender and add one liter of water.  Blend in the same way as you blend your tomato or fruit. Sieve out the chaff, and you will be left with a dark green liquid, packed with vitamins and minerals. Ensure you drink and finish the whole drink within 10 minutes.  Do you feel tired and weak every time? Are you battling with diabetes, hypertension, and arthritis? Are you prone to frequent bouts of malaria? Have you been diagnosed with cancer or you want to prevent it? Do you want glowing and youthful skin? I strongly recommend you take waterleaf juice twice a week.   A trial will convince you.

In a nutshell, the properties in waterleaf have the following health benefits:
v Prevention of heart diseases and stroke
v It enhances cognitive ability
v It has a range of biological and pharmacological uses like anti-inflammatory, anti-fungal, and anti-bacterial functions. It could also be mixed with alligator pepper and avocado in the treatment of hypertension.
v The perfect remedy for weight loss
v Treatment of diabetes
v Reduction of blood cholesterol level and
v Helps as a laxative. Its antioxidant properties make it useful in the treatment of chronic inflammatory diseases.

UNDERSTANDING TERRORISM - Welcome to Advanced Missions Leadership Course (AMLC 2018)

Welcome to Advanced Missions Leadership Course (AMLC 2018)

Thank you for registering for the Advanced Missions Leadership Course (AMLC 2018). It is a special privilege to receive you in Jos and a great honor to host you here for the next one week. The program kicks off today, October 1, 2018.
As believers in Christ Jesus, we are enjoined to know what will happen many years ahead. Knowing ahead will prepare us for the time we have found ourselves now. As leaders, in particular, we can best prepare our followers for the realities of terrorism based on the understanding we have.

In 2 Timothy 3:1, Apostle Paul urged Timothy to KNOW that in the last days, PERILOUS times shall come. Some other version used the word UNDERSTAND while the New Living Translation stresses that it will be DIFFICULT to be a Christian. The Message Bible begins it with “Don’t be naive.” The Philips Bible says the last days will be “full of danger.” Sadly, many Christian including mission leaders are being caught unaware.
That day is here with us - the day of terrorism. If we have the knowledge Apostle Paul wrote about, it will prepare us for the worst. We will strategize. We will not be caught unaware. Of course, it will still be challenging to remain a Christian and like you may have noticed that providing leadership for mission work is tougher to ever.

A substantial part of the AMLC 2018 will be devoted to understanding/ preparing for the reality of terrorism. Terrorism is as old as the Bible. In fact, the Devil is a terrorist. But the current dimension of terrorism is staggering. We will all serve as a think-tank for the greater body of Christ as we pray and brainstorm on what should be the missions best practices at such a time like these as most of this current realities were not taught in our Bible Schools, Seminaries and even in our School of Missions.
As we prepare for the course, please ponder on the following questions in the context of the intensive terrorism across the globe today:
1.  Should we forget about pressing on to closed nations/new frontiers with the current challenges of terrorism?
2.  Should we move our missionaries from the field because of threat and impending attacks?
3. Do we have any budget for emergencies and how much will be enough - if the missionaries die or have to be evacuated in the heat of terrorist attack?
4. What can we do to check the increasing rate of missionary attrition in the face of the alarming rate of terrorism?
5. What can we do to address the shortage of challenges of recruiting new missionaries?
6. What are our experiences with Boko Haram, Fulani Militia and related challenges in our locations?

I hope you arrive ready to engage our resource persons. They are all experienced resource persons in their various fields but we are still dependent on the Holy Spirit to lead us through. We are incredibly privileged in this session to have:

1.     Professor Samuel Odeh, a MET Alumni and one of the founding faculty member of School of Cross-Cultural Missions, Jos handling Missions in Marketplace
2.     Dr. Sam Alaha, also a MET alumni and President of Faithway Ministries speaking at our Crusades.
3.     Dr. Samuel Afolabi, a MET Alumni/Faculty addressing Leadership and  Marital Challenge Management
4.     Brother Ikechukwu Ugwuanyi, Mission leader and Discipler with Hospital Chapel, Abuja teaching Discipleship: Christ Enduring Leadership Strategy
5.     Rev. John Olanrewaju, President of Living Word Outreach and Missionary at Zamfara State speaking on Leading Mission Work in Times of Terrorism.
6.     Gideon Odoma, President of Fortress Ministry, speaking on Leadership and Apologetics.
7.     Rev. Bala  Usman, immediate past National Director, NIFES speaking on The Next Generation
8.     & Dr. Bitrus Audu, President of Christ Missionary Outreach(CMO)addressing us on Current Trends in Global Missions

Two of the night sessions will be devoted to open-air outreach while the rest will be dedicated to research and assignment. Your laptop and internet devices will be required. We may take time to visit one or two churches involved in the Great Commission and a fraction of a day to visit the museum/zoo for relaxation if the time permits. Other issues in this year's curriculum are:

1.     Security Issues & Political Integration
2.     Leadership Principles in Missions
3.     Leadership and  Marital Challenge Management
4.      Finances in Ministries & Missions
5.     Preparing for Foreign Missions/Exploring Opportunities for Foreign Missions
6.      The Next Generation and Remaining Unreached Peoples

I certainly believe that the time we will stay together here will be fruitful. God bless you. You are highly welcome.

September 2018 Missions' Update

Calvary Greeting in Jesus name. We praise God for the grace, help, and blessing this past month. There is no doubt that mission work is getting tougher for us now more than ever, but we can also testify that the grace of God is stronger than ever.  Thank you so much for your prayers. As usual, we want to share with you some of the critical things God has done for us/through us that you need to join us to praise God for and to also share some essential prayer points.

Missionaries' Son Came Back to Life
Luka  &  Esther Iliya and the baby
The son of one of our missionary couple in the Benin Republic, Luka Iliya and his wife passed on recently. This is the second time they are losing their child to death in the past two years. While preparation was being put in place to bury the child, he came back to life. This miracle is beyond what we can express with words. The news shocked everyone around in the community. We are grateful to God that affliction did not arise the second time. Please, join us to praise God and also pray along with us for divine protection for this couple, their family and the all our missionaries laboring in dangerous fields. The spiritual warfares are intense, but we continue to rely on God for His mercies and the prayer of the saints.

The Internally Displaced Camps: A New Frontier
At the Heipang Internally Displaced Camp
You may be aware of the continued attacks on Plateau State villages resulting in the death of over 200 persons by now.  Several thousand of persons were also displaced from their ancestral homes. They live in scattered camps across the state. The situation in the camps is very pathetic. In addition to praying for them, we trusted God for the practical way we could help them. God provided. Recently, in collaboration with Nigeria Evangelical Missions Association (NEMA) and Tabitha Arise, we bought 11 bags of rice, six bags of gari, clothes, toiletries and took to them, Those items were like a drop of water in the ocean. Pray that God should bless the partners that made the donations possible and for more provisions. Pray that God will bless all our partners that make the donation possible.

One Collapsed Church Rebuilt, One Other in Progress
It is also no longer new that four of our worship centers in very critical mission fields where no
New Dir Church building
church existed collapsed one of those fields is over 90% Islamic. We prayed for God’s intervention. To God’s glory, we had rebuild  Dir church to the point that it can be used for worship. We still have some finishing touches to make when the Lord provides the necessary fund. Please join us to thank God that the Dirawas have a place that they could gather to worship God again. We also resume work on the Samunika church, and it is halfway built. Please, join us to thank the Lord for his help thus far and pray that God will provide for us to complete it.

Souls Embrace His Lordship

Thank God with us for the souls that are drawn to the Lord at the various mission fields. It is difficult to disciple convert during raining/ farming seasons like this. Please pray for wisdom for all our missionaries on how to effectively overcome this challenge.

Prayer Needs

1. The 2018 edition of the Advanced Mission Leadership Course is around the corner,  October 1-7, 2018. Please pray that God will provide the fund for our missionaries that have been shortlisted to join leaders of other organizations for the course. We need the training to move to a higher level. Pray for open heaven for the programs.
2. On October 4-6, 2018, we will be hosting our 3rd Annual Student/Youth Mission Summit. It is a deliberate, determined and conscious effort we are making to integrate the youth in missions.  Please, pray that the Lord will honor and breath on these efforts to yield fruits that will impact the nations.
3. As the season for heavy rainfall gradually ceases, we have scheduled monthly outdoor crusade in October, November, and December.  Pray along with us that the next one planned for Furaka will bring souls to Christ.
4. The kids at the Home of Grace (HOG) enjoyed their holiday. They returned to school this week.  We have paid the school fees of some of them and bought their textbooks, but we still covet your prayers for the fund to take care of the remaining kids and sort out their outstanding school fees. Pray that they all enjoy good health during the new term. We have a new girl, Alheri. Pray that God bless help her as she adjusts to the home. We have adopted another orphan for home-based care. She was withdrawn from school when she lost her father. Thank God, she is back at school.
5. We have enjoyed peace in the city of Jos and our Furaka mission base in particular for the past three years. It is not the same for the villages around us. Please, we covet prayers that God would bring to an end this continue attacks, killings, and destructions that is ongoing.

Conclusion

Thank you so much for being always there for us. Your prayers and finances have helped us much. We continue to count on you. We pray for you very often, and we trust God to bless you, contend with every power that contends against you and gives you victory on all sides. We appreciate you dearly. Thank you so much.
